For this assignment I did something old mixed with something new. Growing up I lived for sleepovers with friends. We'd always have some crazy activities planned like baking cookies while watching Jenna Marbles videos or MTV which would just end up with someone's parents baking the cookies as my friends and I entertaining our parents by recreating the YouTube videos that lead to a skit comedy of our own. My best friend Steph and I would do this all the time at her house in High School with her mom. Steph's highschool years were challenging. She lost her grandfather and father in the same year to cancer. When her mom would be taking them to treatment or researching surgeries I would always be with Steph. She just needed the support and a few hours of laugher during such a hard time in her family's life. We'd dance around the kitchen table making pretend we were on Jersey Shore and dress up in crazy outfits to get a smile out of her mom. It always worked. After her dad passed away, it was hard to get that smile out of her mom. She'd be in bed by 8 o'clock most nights and didn't wanna help us bake anymore. Our college years few by steph went to Plymouth state to for elementary ed and special ed, and when we had the time to visit each others it was at college so we could share some of our new lives with a old friend. But just this summer her mom and new boyfriend decided to move in together, and last weekend she invited me to sleepover to see the new house and Steph was in Rhode Island for the weekend. Both of us did not wanna go to bars or out to eat our Saturday night instead we put on the new season of Jersey Shore and high school musical soundtrack while we drank a bottle of wine. Her mom had dinner plans but would be home after to finish the bottle with us. It felt weird to be in Steph's new house and being older having a sleepover like we were 14 again. But because she is my best friend it wasn't uncomfortable. After an hour of Jersey Shore and planning how we ourselves will become cool moms we started to do makeovers. These weren't season two Snooki makeovers covering ourselves with self tanner and perfecting the poof, like Snooki our makeovers have evolved and matured into something beautiful. It was challenging to try to do eyeliner tastefully, and actually contour instead of using every bronzer both of us owned. After our new looks and a good buzz we used our no longer hot curling irons as mics for High School Musical sing along, just like when we were 14. Steph's mom came home in the middle of my solo to Breaking Free she was also buzzed from dinner with friends and her boyfriend was shocked to the sight of steph and I standing on the kitchen island with to go cups and curling irons in our hands. Steph's mom lit up like a child's on christmas morning it was just like the high school sleepovers when we were young except now with wine. "Jacks you know what to do now that Stephanie is 21 get me coffee cup" so I made 2 more to go wine cups and all four of us were no longer listening to high school musical but margaritaville on Pandora. Steph and I started to make mac and cheese and then her mom took over and attempted to make pasta and meatballs. We all were too hungry from our dance numbers and running around the house to wiat and instead ordered pizza. I will never forget last weekend it was something care free and old that has blossomed into something, it truly was the start of something new. To connect with the reading I can pin point when Jenkins 6 P's were in use last saturday night. 1. Permission Steph's mom facilitated us having the sleepover at her house and when Steph and I both decided not to go out we gave ourselves the permission to have a night in. 2. Process we made it more challenging our makeovers by actually trying to look like Snooki now and adding drinking wine into the mix. 3. Passion after we completed our makeovers we were determined to sing karaoke. 4. Productivity this is shown when we were deciding to change our makeovers as well as when we tried to make mac and cheese then pasta and meatballs. 5. Participation was demonstrated when steph's mom came home and her boyfriend and her sang along with steph and I and put in song requests. 6. Pleasure was shown when we'd laugh at others signing off key or creating new dance moves. the next day at breakfast we all kept saying "we know how to party". We were proud and overall had a great time from the night.

Thanks for sharing this story Jackie. There is something about play and reliving parts of our childhood/ adolescence and it's cool that you got to do this thing you always used to do but in a new way, with a new version (of the show and new versions of you). Also, I wonder what you think about playing solo vs with a friend/ in community?
