Reflection event Open house Saturday november 3rd

I was able to volunteer at the YDEV table at the open house for interested high school students. The event was for about 2 and half hours. 3 other ydev students lesly and I worked at the table where we talked with high school students informing them what our major is about at RIC. It gave me the opportunity to socialize with my peers in my major I do not have classes with as well as work together to give our best representation of why we are youth development students. We created a strategy when a parent or high school student approached us we would ask what their name was and what major they were interested in studying. then we would ask if they knew what youth development is and then another student would explain what classes we take and why those classes are important than another student would talk about their personal experience why they are in youth development then the last student spoke about their internship opportunities, internship they currently have or jobs in our field as well as grad school. It worked out really well and the parents and students who we had the opportunity to talk with all really enjoyed our delivery of information and that us students who are in the program could speak so much on the major not just our program director and our professor. One of our themes and is one of the 4 anchors in our class is leading with. Lesley facilitated an environment where we the students of Youth Development could be apart of  the expression of our major at this event. We had guidelines on what points we should include in our little speaches or interactions with the high school students and parents but was able to convey the information and express it in which way we wanted to. I think the students and parents really understood the relationship that as students we had with our education as youth development majors. Like in leading with we expressed important student voice and collaboration with our professors is. Attached is links to articles about leading with I feel are important to our education as Youth Development students.
